ASD is one of Jamaica’s most innovative fashion brands, which hosts a premiere women’s ready-to-wear clothing line and a range of unique and functional fashion illustrated lifestyle products.
Ayanna Dixon has major plans for Jamaica’s fashion industry. With her passion for fashion she intends to put Jamaica on the map for exquisite designer clothing. Ayanna’s love affair with fashion goes as far back as she can remember and with a textile designer mother and architect father, it’s no surprise she took the artistic route. She refers to becoming a fashion designer as “a fusion of both arts.” Ayanna interned at Donna Karan and Marchesa while she studied at the Art Institute of New York. She has since placed second in Mission Catwalk (the regional version of Project Runway), won the First Global Moda Grant, has showed at Miami Beach International Fashion Week and Kingston’s Collection Moda, and also hosted Jamaica’s first fashion illustration exhibition.
When designing her creations she always keeps in mind that fashion should be an extension of someone’s personality and should have an impact on a person’s mood and feelings. She continues to push her dreams of someday owning a fashion house comparable to major labels in New York. Ayanna stays focused “I want young people to not only dream of only having successful careers in fashion, but to also make it a reality and eventually put Jamaica on the fashion map.” Ayanna is a youth mentor and teacher who works with young men and women to develop their skills in fashion design and business development.
