Many studies often site Jamaica as one of the world’s most entrepreneurial countries. In the Caribbean, it’s one of the leading islands for entrepreneurial mindset and activity. Without doubt, the will and spirit of entrepreneurship is strong on the island. The Global Entrepreneurship Monitor 2013 Jamaica Report shows that entrepreneurship is seen as a desirable profession. People see opportunities for entrepreneurship and have confidence in their abilities to create and manage a new business, as well as overcome the fear of failure. Unfortunately, the same data shows a high rate of business discontinuance among Jamaican entrepreneurs. This is due to a number of reasons, including, but not limited to, their inability to access finance. In addition, there is a lack of innovation and a tendency for Jamaican business to stay small. We want to change this trend. By supporting the Jamaican spirit and tendency for entrepreneurship with practical business-skills training and a robust accelerator programme offering a suite of support services, we help high-potential entrepreneurs move from idea stage to launch and from start up to scale up.
